Thankfully we were north of Albury-Wodonga where drizzle had set in for the day; it was cool at Walbundrie but no rain to spoil the day!
Another great turnout of AWOCers, including several from the training sessions we’ve been running. It’s great to see them enjoying orienteering and improving their skills. While some choose to walk their course others are being competitive and being rewarded with excellent results.
A small contingent of WaggaRoos had some good results to score some much needed points. But it was AWOC who dominated the day again, scoring 63 points to the WaggaRoos’ 25. AWOC now has a huge lead in the Interclub series.
Peter Mousley made it a hattrick of Interclub wins with 1st place on Long Hard. Nick Mousley wasn’t far behind and would have been very close except for one major mistake. Briohny Seaman salvaged some points for WaggaRoos with a 3rd place finish, just pipping AWOC’s Russell Blatchford.
Jack Janetzki gave WaggaRoos a win on Short Hard, claiming 1st place by a comfortable margin over Tony Perrott and Liz Wood.
Emmo Willinck had his first win on Moderate, three minutes ahead of WaggaRoos’ Tom Janetzki. Gibb Willinck followed-up his outstanding effort at Wolfram to earn another podium; big time loses are expected with new orienteers and it was just one bad leg for Gibb in an otherwise excellent run.
Brothers Logan and Ryder Seaman took the top two steps for WaggaRoos on Easy, Ryder doing a fantastic job helping to look after his younger brother. Youngsters Pearl, Theo, Harry, Louise, Annalise and Indiana all completed the Easy course, showing some great improvement with their orienteering skills along the way – well done kids! And a mention for their parents shadowing – the kids wouldn’t be there without you!
