Fortunately the sun was shining as the wind was biting cold on Goombargana Hill – the windchill was below 0°C! Fortunately, by the time we’d finished it had warmed up all the way to 2°C windchill. But that didn’t deter a good contingent who made the trip and enjoyed a run on a map on glaring contrast: open farmland and densely populated forest.
Experienced adventure racer and rogainer Tim Boote is a relative newcomer to orienteering and claimed his first win on Long Hard, which was an excellent result. Peter Mousley was close behind in second with Nick Mousley completing a podium sweep for AWOC.
WaggaRoo Debbie Davey headed an all women’s podium on Short Hard, with a comfortable margin over AWOCers Liz Wood and Prue Dobbin.
Travelling from Leeton to participate in just his second event, Ian Hookway won Moderate with another newcomer Teagan Belfrage a close second. A couple great results demonstrating the benefits of a Moderate course as a stepping stone to Hard courses.
It was a battle of the ages on Easy, with Kath Oliver turning back the clock to beat home a group of enthusiastic youngsters comprising Indiana, Kaylina and Max.

With just one event remaining in the 2024 Interclub series, AWOC has a commanding lead, 307 points to 154. The goal now is to have a good turnout at the final event and top last years tally of 329 points!
